Roman Baths, Bath: Photo of the Week
Summer time. Sun is shining. People are outside enjoying the rays. What better time to join them and pop down to the Roman Baths in Bath? Not on the day we went. Ash’s mother and auntie came over for a visit, and I thought it would be a nice treat to show them the delights of Bath. It went very well for us initially, but there was a heatwave going on at the time last year – almost 30 Celsius. As the day got hotter, energy levels went down dramatically. Being energetic myself, it was becoming a challenge for me as well. At that point, I thought it would be a good idea to head to somewhere more shaded. Somewhere like a fully working, humid, steaming ancient Roman bath complex.
In the shade, and out again
The initial wander through the museum went swimming – spirits raised by the cool air conditioning in the complex. But once we reached the main baths, it was unbearable. Ash’s mother started to overheat, and even from my standpoint, things were unbearably sticky in here. The saving grace of this visit here was that there was a fully licensed bar stocking all manner of soft and alcoholic drinks. Ideal for me especially. I bought some water for Ash’s mother, while the rest of us tried to savour the atmosphere and bought some glasses of bubbly.
The Roman Baths have a good setting for you to sit on the ancient stonework and chillout with a drink and chat amongst yourselves, or even contemplate by yourself. I found it the perfect opportunity to take some photos. Here’s one I took that day…
So there you have it. The Roman Baths. In Bath funnily enough. It’s a great place to go, if you love Roman history. Even if you don’t, it’s a great insight into the history of Bath….or for a drink.
